HISTORY OF DEEP DIVING SUBMARINES – A TIMELINE

For the first decades of the 20th Century humans could only dream of visiting the deep ocean. From humble beginnings in the 1930s ‘deep submergence’ technology rapidly developed to the point that even the ocean’s greatest depths could be explored safely.

Soon, new undersea vehicles ushered in a new age of exploration of Earth’s last frontier.  Remarkable discoveries followed, ranging from undersea volcanoes to the wreck of the Titanic. The bathyscaph Trieste paved the way, setting an unbreakable record in the process.
